From November 2007, Identity Foundation, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA*) and NGO’s in Pune have collaborated to run the MLC programme to optimize its effect and reach. SSA and the NGO’s jointly address deprived children through over 250 non-formal-education (NFE) centers and reach around 5000 children. The Mobile Learning Center will now cater to the infotainment needs of these children in form of picnics, movies, educational films etc. As the beginning of the cooperation, between the 26th and the 30th of November 90 children from 5 NGOs went for picnics to Tulapur and Baneshwar (both these places are close to Pune). The participating NGO’s were- Tathagat Pratisthan, Sankalp Foundation, PremSeva Pratisthan & Kannad Madhyam. The children enjoyed themselves since they rarely get an opportunity to go anywhere. The children were also shown films like ‘Ammu Ki Bakari’, ‘Gilli Gilli Atta’ and ‘Shri Krishna’ during the picnics.
This cooperation is planned with the SSA to be extended for the complete year of 2008 and reach out to all the 5000 children the NGO’s are currently associated with. The successful initiation of this programme in coordination with the Funders and Sponsors believing in the idea, the Government Agency acknowledging the concept and the NGO’s participating in the programme act as a huge moral booster for everybody at Identity Foundation and makes is stronger believers in the benefits of sharing our resources.
We take this opportunity to thank the sponsors for both the MLC units: MLC 1: Zensar Technologies (Primary Sponsor), Young Indians, IndiaCo, TietoEnator, Identity Foundation Corpus and Individual Donors
MLC 2: Full Sponsorship from >TietoEnator

Today TietoEnator donated a brand new Mobile Learning Center bus to Identity Foundation. It comes equipped with a white-board, a laptop with DVD player and a surround sound system. TietoEnator has been supporting the Identity Foundation initiative for over 3 years through their employee donation drive, where the employees of TietoEnator in Pune donate money from their salaries every month, which is doubled by TietoEnator and thus help in running the day-to-day activities of the education programme. The new Mobile Learning Center is the second center that Identity Foundation has started. The MLC programme is unique in nature because it is the first-of-its-kind initiative where the center is dedicated to the community at large and is to be used for the benefit of deprived children. Any organisation or group who works with deprived children can book this resource and take advantage of the bus which comes fully equipped with an audio visual infotainment facility. See More Photos…

Sheetal who attends government school regularly appeared for school exams for the 1st time this year and stood 4th in her class. Back in 2005, Sheetal, along with seven other children were admitted in a Corporation School. In those days, the Atikraman Group (anti-encroachment department, Corporation) frequented the area quite often. The parents at work required the kids to hide their belongings during these visits. Due to this unplanned nature of visits the children were unable to attend school on a regular basis and had to quit. In 2006, we tried yet again, mainly due to the response of the parents and the eagerness of the children to attend school. This time, Sheetal went to school every single day. Her parents, carpenters by profession always encouraged her. Sheetal’s parents, impressed by her performance are ready to go to any measures for her education. They went personally to the Corporation, requesting permission to stay where they are, as it would otherwise hamper their child’s education. Amazed by the dedication of the family, the Corporation too has developed a soft corner for them and visits the area rarely.
Net Results In April 2007, 36 children studying at the different centres of Identity Foundation appeared for the primary school examination conducted externally by the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Education Department. This was the first time that any of the children studying with us appeared for the examination. All 36 children cleard their exams successfully and are promoted th the next class! Children like Sheetal Chandubai Thori, originally from Gujrath, endorse our beliefs and inspire us to keep doing our work!
